The Vision of Becoming a Finance Manager

To any other scholar, building a formidable career path through which one can exercise their knowledge and skills as they increase their expertise in their field of professionalism is their long term vision once they complete their courses. Similarly, I envision using my master’s degree to become a Finance Manager in a renowned company once I clear my education. Among other things, the presumption is that the Master’s degree I am undertaking will help shape my career by helping solve society-related problems and as such, deliver the greater social good within the industry and my community as well.

In order to achieve the greater social good for the community and the industry at large, there are basic pillars of conduct and operation as established by the Colangelo College of Business which should be met if the vision of becoming a renowned Finance Manager will ever become a reality. The three pillars spelt out by the Colangelo College of Business include servant leadership, ethics, and entrepreneurism.

Servant leadership

For the starters, servant leadership is a philosophy which advocates for the interaction between a leader and others, be it in the management or not, with an aim of reducing the quest for power but rather, together achieving authority (Stones, Lori, Lynn, & Kelly, 2013).

No field of knowledge is an island, many of the courses taught within the universities and colleges as well are interdisciplinary. As I was going through my finance course, I had the privilege to attend classes on Corporate Governance and Leadership through which I came to learn about servant leadership. With the understanding of how influential and powerful the position of a Finance Manager is in a firm, I will not seek to use the power of the position to my advantage. Rather, I will constantly seek to promote healthy relationships with the rest of the members within the department and other departments since the finance department is directly involved in the budgeting process of all other departments.

As the authority figure, I will use the position to promote well-being around the entire firm seeking to assist one another in times when there are challenges both in the line of duty or in their personal lives. The Finance Manager position comes with lots of leadership responsibility and as such, many of the subordinates will be looking up to me for advice and any other assistance at times (Christopher, 2016). Resultantly, I will rightly use both my expertise and power within the firm to see to it that all employees are assisted and can discharge their duties effectively. However, that will come with sizeable punishments for those who violate the law.

Servant leadership is in agreement with the Christian mission of the Grand Canyon University in that, going by the holy bible, Jesus was the pioneer of servant leadership. He served both humanity and the heavenly kingdom with dignity even though he had the privilege not to do so since he had the powers. It is all about being a humble and willing to assist leader as Jesus showed us.

Ethics

On the other hand, attaining the degree will enable me to discharge my duties as a Finance Manager in an ethical manner. Christopher (2016) identifies that ethics in the corporate world demand that proper business policies and procedures with reference to controversial issues like insider trading, corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, discrimination, bribery, and fiduciary responsibilities should be applied in a manner that leads to good results for the greater majority of people (stakeholders). Content of the master’s degree addressed ethical, professional, and legal challenges related to the field of finance given the many opportunities resonating from the position of a Finance Manager. The legal, professional, and ethical regulations within the finance field are clear on what can lead to termination of a career and what can land one in jail which I will wish to stick to since I want to build an informed career in the field.

Ethical practices are in line with the Christian mission of the Grand Canyon University which advocates for integrity and honesty in all our undertakings more especially at the time we have the privilege to commit a crime/wrong. Such privileges come with positions earned and the Finance Manager's office earns one exactly that.

Entrepreneurism

Finally, the course has shaped and rejuvenated my entrepreneurial skills and abilities which are crucial for the Finance Management office. Entrepreneurship advocates for creation and the application of new ways of doing things with an aim of achieving better results every other time (Weldi, Surya & Tigor, 2018). Among many other concepts, the course advocated for decision-making processes in unlikely times which is a key intervention to entrepreneurship. The Finance Management folio demands new decisions that are viable to the organization always as a way of bettering the service discharge process.

The concept of entrepreneurship concurs well with the Christian Mission of Grand Canyon University which demands that new solutions should be constantly sought for existing problems as well as new problems should they arise.
