Hire a WriterI submitted an application for a work with one of the businesses in my area, and I was selected for an interview. All the panelists were interested in the information I shared with them and the experience I had acquired while working for various organizations while still in school. When a job was given to me, I happily accepted. I was thrilled to join the organization's finance division.
My coworkers were all very friendly, so I was able to establish relationships with them very rapidly. However, my immediate supervisor kept telling me that he did not like fresh graduates especially when they were women. I asked him to give me a chance to prove that individuals are different and that I had an aim of doing the best for the organization. He was reluctant and kept harassing me especially verbally. He would make awful comments about me and threatened to fire me in case I reported him. He would also give me complex assignments within a short time and this made it difficult for me to complete them. He would never allow me to take my leaves and forced me to attend the job even on weekends. When I tried to speak to him, he would demean me and tell me that he does not listen to complaints from women.
I had just completed school and the situation was becoming unbearable. I approached my senior manager to report the issue. Upon summoning, he insisted that he had never harassed me and that I was only hated correction, which was a common problem among fresh graduates. I felt that I could not continue working in such a negative environment. I wrote my resignation letter and left the organization. I felt that I was receiving unfair treatment yet I was giving the best of my ability to the organization. I had hardly been there for one year and even without seeking to understand my personality, the boss was constantly looking down upon me. He made me feel incapable of delivering and I felt inadequate that I was a fresh graduate working at one of the core departments in the organization.
I had a hope in the job position and I aimed to create my career profile from the experiences I would gain. I also wanted to create good working relationships with my colleagues and leaders so that I would learn as much as I would from the department. The environment was not favorable and since I had to resign, I did not achieve most of the goals I had set. My immediate supervisor was supposed to ensure that he guided me through all the activities in the department. He failed to carry out his role and possibly killed the dream I had when working in the organization. The experience taught me that when I get a position of power, I should use it to influence the people around me positively. I learned that leadership is demonstrated in the way we treat our juniors and that the greatest measure of our success is the impact we have on other people. As such, I began mentoring some of my friends who were in high school to help them with the issue of life, especially at the university level.
I have been able to pick up the pieces and proceed on with life after this experience. I recently got a position at the department of Homeland Security in the United States. The main role of this agency is to offer security to the public by focusing on issues such as terrorism, border protection, and cyber safety amongst other issues (Bullock, Haddow, & Coppola, 2012). Terrorism is one of the problems that are of major concern in the US at this time. The fear of terrorist aggression brings feelings of inadequacy to the citizens of the US. They feel that they are not capable of matching up to the attackers who come against innocent people in untold ways.
I liken this feeling to the one my former boss made me experience (Pain, 2014). As such, I will commit my best to the organization to ensure that all terrorists within and outside the United States are dealt with and eradicated. I will carry the visions of the department of Homeland Security in my heart and ensure that all the assignments given to me are completed in time and with commitment. I will also focus on collaboration with my seniors ensuring that I am responsive at all times and obedient to any orders given to me. I believe that in this department we will restore the faith of the citizens in the national security of their country (Gal-Or, 2015).
Following the experience and the lessons that I have gained from it, I would let a friend know that everything that happens to us in life is a chance to make us better. We learn how to behave towards people in the right manner because we have been ill-treated by somebody along the way. Finally, it is our duty to choose what we learn from different circumstances. We should never let the negativity of other people influence our actions in life.
