The Importance of Language in Creating Unity

Language is a core connection between people and the values they uphold together. The essay portrays importance in communication that cannot merely be negated by the fact that the basis of its formation was not genuine (Baldwin 5). As the author indicated, Black English was formed during a season when slaves were not given an opportunity to gain education and therefore developed a way of communication that enabled them to speak and understand each other adequately. There is harshness in the presentation of the topic of these essays, and it tries to bring out the importance of something that has been despised by many natives (Baldwin 5). He uses personal experience to efficiently show the negative impacts that the culture of African Americans had on the English language (Baldwin 5). As you have identified in the discussion, the essay does not make the only point of the word of the black but on the ability of people to communicate and create something that enables them to gain a temporal co-existence.

The effectiveness of language to create unity

As identified through its necessity to enhance a confrontation of the issues of life. The different examples evidence it provided such as that from the south of France that Black English is not necessarily the only dialect that faces contentions in the master of their superiority to English. Consequently, as identified, language plays diverse roles apart from providing necessary information. As defined it is a political instrument in the role it plays in determining leaders within the society (Baldwin 6). There are specific dialects within an organization that is defined as crucial in producing best leaders. As such, it has been possible to associate language as it provides identity within a community or the general public. Language has gotten to a point where the antecedents of person's speech are used against them as a political instrument.

Drawing lessons from his own experience

There are different ways through which language could enhance harmony. It has created an opportunity for the black Americans to communicate without the Americans efficiently understanding. An experience of racism for Baldwin informed his writing and participation in the civil rights movement as he made an effort to defend Black English as a language (Baldwin 5). He tries to safeguard the integrity of his people by supporting the values that they upheld and the critical reasons that had informed the establishment of the Black English. Conversely, the writer accomplishes his intentions of soiling the values and reputation of the Americans through their ignorance towards other cultures. It shows their selfishness in believing that they language significant and most important to be used officially (Baldwin 5).

The essay provides an opportunity for questioning

How individuals and society view their superiority and inferiority when comparing with others. Though it is not entirely the basis for despising other cultures, language has been used o manipulate others such as the black Americans and make them feel intimidated even to take up leadership positions. As such, though the essay focuses on language, it could not be the primary issue on the question but the desire of the Americans to manipulate the blacks and make them feel inferior including their children by retarding the opportunities for education (Baldwin 5). The essay shows the important language for communication and therefore each no matter their culture in making the society a better place.
