The New Luther King Bridge Crossing will help accommodate more traffic and ease pressure on the St. Croix River Crossing. The result will be complete decongestion and diversion of vehicle traffic from downtown Stillwater (St.Croixfishing n.d). Unlike the four-lane extradosed bridge between Oak Park Heights in Minnesota and St.Joseph,in Wisconsin, the new bridge will be bascule and will also have four lanes. Moreover, the New Luther King Bridge does not threaten conservation efforts as was the case with St. Croix River Crossing (Giles 2014).

The possibility of a project incurring more funds than originally anticipated is usually very high particularly for medium and large projects. To ensure that the construction of the New Luther King Bridge Crossing will not be delayed, adequate stakeholder engagement was conducted to ensure that the building begins on schedule. Political constraints: there are high political stakes in place between the governors of Minnesota and Wisconsin.
