Kevin Hart's Comedy Style

When he senses that his audience has not understood the joke, Kevin Hart, unlike most comics, swiftly starts another joke to cover up the previous one. He also gives up on a plot that doesn't work by switching the subject while keeping the same cast of characters. For instance, he begins by talking about his father visiting him at school before switching the scene to their house. Kevin Hart is aware of the value of timing and how a bad joke can ruin the entire performance. The comic can accurately assess his audience and modify his performance as needed. When he realizes there are no laughs he directs the show in another direction.

Audience Connection through Humor

In one of the Kevin Hart's comic videos, he manages to develop a story and succeeds eventually. He succeeds to convince his audience that he often has sex for only twenty-three seconds by demonstrating using a stool on the stage. The demonstration made that story resonate well with the audience as they broke into laughter. Kevin Hart succeeds in his jokes because he knows his audience well enough that even though he uses vulgar language, the audience will still be okay with his jokes.

Elements of a Good Story

It takes several factors to make a story interesting and worth listening. First, the writing style of a story should always reflect how the writer wants the readers to experience the story. Therefore, a good story should be easy to read and should flow smoothly (Greengross, Martin, & Miller, 2012). Second, a good story should have a plot that heads in the direction that the audience never expects and should incorporate events with absolute realism for the audience to relate to it. A good story should have an element of originality where the writer is capable of taking anything and making it his own. If the writer wants to develop a story that has been presented previously, he should consider introducing new ideas to alter the originality of the story. Storytelling is a crafting emotion, and people tell stories to engage emotions. Thus, the only way a good story can lead the audience to feel something is to narrate the story with empathy (Morrison, 2013).

Effective Storytelling Techniques

A story can be effective when and if the storyteller introduces the story in a manner that is interesting. The story should be told in speech and actions that let the audience know what is happening, and the storyteller should use simple language that can be easily understood (Sweeney, Soutar, & Mazzarol, 2008).

Using Stories to Convey News

A story to be used as a vehicle to convey good or bad news will require special techniques of narration. First, if the story is meant to deliver bad news, the storyteller should prepare the audience by using a low tone and be able to use the right gestures to hint to the audience that something is coming up. A good storyteller should not surprise the audience with bad news. Similarly, when a story is meant to convey good news, the storyteller should be creative in charming up his audience with a lively introduction that will prepare them psychologically. However, to convey good news, the storyteller can surprise his audience by communicating directly the intended message (Trionfi, & Reese, 2009).
