Hire a WriterThe identification of the hazard at the workplace is the first stage in risk management. The IT Department will be the focus of Domino Pizza's risk management strategy. The following risks may befall firm personnel working in the IT Department. IT employees should be aware of the computer-related hazards and injuries that might occur if they operate in hazardous situations. Because Domino's IT department has a large number of computers, many health and safety issues may arise. The first injury that can be suffered is the Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) that is triggered by working in an environment with poor lighting and excessive glare on the screen of the computer (Tohidi, 2011).
The CVS hazard can cause the risk of blurring vision and frequent headaches. The assessment of the likelihood of the IT stuff suffering from the Computer Vision Syndrome reveals a high probability of catastrophic consequences (Tohidi, 2011).
Substitution of the Hazard. The IT Department of Dominion Pizza should replace the old computers with new computers that have the anti-glare screens. The company should also institute administrative controls such as training the employees on the need to practice frequent blinking and provide their eyes periodic breaks. Moreover, the employees should be trained on how to adjust the contrast and brightness of the computers that can match their preference and minimize eye strain. The computers at the IT Department will have to be reconfigured such that the monitor’s top line does not exceed the eye of the user. Lastly, all the employees should keep a distance of 18 to 24 inches between their faces and the monitors (Stoneburner, Goguen & Feringa, 2002).
The adoption of the proposed control measures of the risks should be accompanied with frequent evaluation of their impact on the utilization of computers in the Department of IT to ensure that the remedies do not exacerbate the situation or introduce new hazards. Additionally, it’s imperative that the employees should be informed and trained about the latest changes at the department to ensure the safety of every worker from injury and risks to health (Stoneburner et al., 2002).
