Hire a WriterEmmanuel Kant is a towering figure in modern philosophy. In his critiques, he introduced the key concept of critical philosophy, focusing primarily on the critique of pure reason. Many terms are key to his argument. These are some examples:
Aesthetics - "the ability of reasoning and judgment that allows us to have a decent sense of beauty and hold those experiences as a component of an organized, rational reality" (Kant 7). The term is derived from the Greek word aesthesis, which means the ability to sense and experience things.
Appearance - "It should be stated that all of our intuition is a reflection of appearance, and appearances do not exist in itself but only in humans" (Kant 9). Appearances are objects as experienced by us with our different ways of sensibility and our various forms of construction.
Sensation – “ sensibility is the section that avails sensory representations”(Kant 11). Sensation is the particular ways in which animals as well as humans, are receptive in regard to space and time- it’s the “matter” of intuition.
Matter of intuition – “ Human beings have matter of intuitions in regard to time and space and they relate them to everything they perceive.”(Kant 20 )A point of view, school of thought or a perspective. How certain ideas are arranged in the mind.
Form of intuition_ “There exist two forms of intuition that are applicable to appearances: time and space.”(Kant 20) The things that control human beings in making rational decisions.
Space –“ A priori structure of “outer sense”.(Kant 36) It is the subjective sensibility condition from which outer intuition is possible for humans.
Time _ “A priori formal situation of every appearance.”(Kant 37) It is an inner sense that structures and ensures the effective cognition of objects through appearances.
Empirical reality_“That which can be verified through proof”(Kant 26). It is that which can be experimented because of how it is distorted and keep changing as dictated by time and space.
Transcendental identity_ “The construction of things as they appear themselves”(Kant 25).The experiences of things by human beings is identical to the way those things appear to us.
