Disastrous Consequences of the Muslim Ban

Donald Trump, the president of the United States, signed an executive order that became known as the "travel ban" or the "Muslim ban," which was in force from January to March 2017. When the order became effective, it attempted to bar a specific group of individuals from entering the USA from various nations. The president wanted to combat terrorism by limiting immigration from nations that were thought to be terrorist-prone. Syria, Libya, Iran, Sudan, Iraq, Yemen, and Somalia are among the nations affected. The order states that entry into the USA must be prohibited for at least three months for visitors from these nations. The purpose for developing order is novel, but the measures proposed are horrific. One would observe that the use justification provided to develop these immigration bans is not sufficient to warrant such extreme measures and as such, the executive is a fox. According to the president, this order will not have diverse consequences.

In addition, the order suspends the United States Refugee Admissions Program for a minimum of 120 days after which it can continue operating in specific countries approved by the security and intelligence agencies in the country. However, for countries like Syria, the suspension is indefinite. The support of refugees will be based on giving priority to persecutions of people whose religion is a minority religion in the country. There is also a possibility of the presidency requesting for the applicants of visas and refugees to submit their passwords for their social media accounts. This request will be aimed at providing more information in the security screening process for these applicants. How creative it is for a free country to restrict the freedom of others!

The executive order banning citizens of different countries from accessing the United States can be termed as insane. This is because the ban can only escalate the hatred and resentment felt by the inhabitants of these countries towards the United States of America. The county’s safety can only be guaranteed by addressing the causes of hatred and terrorist attacks while at the same time finding viable solutions. A literal, logical, and ethical examination of the provisions of the executive order brings to light a number of violations that we would not want to be involved in.

To begin with, there are concerns that the order goes contrary to the entire constitution regarding the equal treatment and protection of religious freedom. The ban is intended for the Muslim population. It encourages the formation of stereotypical ideologies that depict a great number of Muslims as terrorists. In fact, for terrorists, discrimination brings them joy because they will justify their attacks. Banning immigrants from these countries means that people from these states already in the USA will be viewed with suspicion by friends, colleagues and neighbors. They will cause suffering to innocent civilians in order to bring justice to the Muslim population being discriminated against (Bier para 6).

The Muslim population in the USA will also feel discriminated against by the order. This is because its focus is on the Islamic religion and states that have Muslims as the majority population. Population affected negatively will be as angry as a bull. As a result, we will feel victimized for crimes committed by other people and this will result in the development of negative feelings towards us by non-Muslims. Some Muslims in the USA will easily be influenced by the terrorist ideology and as a result, they will be more vulnerable to radicalization. This demonstrates that, it is easy to radicalize, but to eliminate it is hard.

This is because there are a number of foreign and international students enrolled in Universities across the USA and the ban will restrict these students from accessing education, and as a matter of fact, some colleges have voiced their concerns regarding this matter. They have also advice their students from the affected countries not to leave the USA because they will have trouble getting exemptions when travelling back

The assumption that a culture or religion facilitates terrorism is a misconception held by the president in his formulation of the order. We have diverse cultures, we have different religions, we have different origins, and none of these factors advocate for war or violence. The fact that most terrorist activities in the country are committed by Islamic extremists does not mean that Islam is the instigator of these attacks. We cannot fuss and curse at Islam because of these misconceptions. The realization that no culture supersedes another has not dawned on the creators of this order. We should understand that each culture is subjective and therefore, we cannot make objective judgments regarding different ways of doing things. Additionally, the president confuses the relationship between cause and correlation.

The protection of refugees is one of the indicators that a country has concern for the well being of the international community, and especially those that need assistance. Every state that has the ability to safeguard refuges physically, safeguard them emotionally, and safeguard them psychologically from abuses such as violation of human rights. However, the new order by the USA restricts humanitarian aid to specific refugees all in the name of national security. The United Nations Refugee Convention demands that the United States should offer a safe haven to all people seeking assistance from them. The economy of the USA will also be affected by this immigration ban. Immigrants constitute a large number of the work force in the country. Immigrants are known to be jacks of all trades. Menial jobs and unskilled labor are largely provided by immigrants and the enforcement of the executive order will have adverse effects on the country’s economy. Moreover, they bring innovativeness in the work force by introducing new ideas that make the United States economy competitive in the world. A robust economy will guarantee success of employers, of workers, of distributors and of consumers (BrettScneider para 7).

This is because discrimination begets discrimination among the parties involved. For instance, why would the Middle East tolerate Americans in their countries? Further, the attempt to protect the religious minorities in Muslim states may end up endangering the lives of these people.

This suspect approach can result in an escalation of terrorist activities from terrorists who are American citizens. The United States Government should therefore provide an all hands on deck policy and starter that will effectively fight terrorism while at the same time ensuring that the fundamental rights and freedoms of people are safeguarded. The use of discrimination in the war against terrorist will fail, separation strategies will fail and violence will fail. Developing such a strategy will lead to respect for people regardless of their religion, peaceful interaction, and ultimately the end of terrorism. Onomatopoeia- Rejecting the order communicates the reconciliation message with a bang.
