Building Tolerance and Cultural Understanding

Building tolerance and cultural understanding between criminal justice organizations and communities is one of the four advantages of community-based policing.

Promoting Peaceful Coexistence

Community policing promotes peaceful coexistence between the residents of a neighborhood or community, as well as between the police and the public. Additionally, it stresses proactive issue solving in a regular and organized manner. It fosters an atmosphere in which people can stop crimes in their tracks and guarantees that the public and police can coexist peacefully without fear of one another (Colleoni, 2013). As a result, the people are able to trust the policeman more and the policemen are better able to understand how their community lives. This also creates opportunities where are people involved in the community can join the community policing activities in their neighborhood.

Enhancing Safety and Living Standards

Community-based policing also is seen as the best way to promote the safety of its neighborhood and enhance proper living standards of the people in the community. Community policing plays a role in the relationship between the people and the police and also solving issues of crimes, insecurities in a community. Rosenblum & Travis (2016) suggests that once there is the presence of so many policemen in a city, the people feel secure, and thus will be active in building, developing the community, it enables the people in the community understand the tasks of policemen which improves their relationship with the people, which helps reduce fear among the people in the community.

Expanding Police Organization Goals

It should be able to expand the police organization goals and also determine the organization of the police in order for them to reach their goals and targets (Kasper, 2014). The local leaders involved in a community ought to participate for the community-based policing to function as required. Everyone has a responsibility of collaborating with each other for their goals and aims for the community to be achieved sufficiently.

Maximizing Talents and Resources

According to Rosenblum & Travis (2016), community policing helps in maximum use of talents and resources among the people in the community. This is because, with enough securities, people dare to showcase their capabilities, because there will be no cases of harassments and theft.it also enables the local government to allocate more resources to the police, which in turn develops the community. The community can set up their cultural days or social days or even talent shows among themselves to enhance growth of abilities among the people in the community. Resources can also be shared among the people. Thus there will be no misuse of funds and the relationship among the people will be enhanced.

Fostering Collaboration and Idea Generation

It also helps the people in the community come up with ideas that will lead to the betterment of the people in the community. They can make their own rules that suits them best, and also amend the ones that they feel are becoming a threat to them or do not benefit them. This creates a sense of togetherness among the people as they come together to discuss their issues that affect them (Schreibman, 2014). Another advantage is that community policing is a flexible activity. The activities, solutions, and strategies in the community change with time. For instance, one way of solving a problem in one community, may not work in another community. Thus there is the freedom of change of things and way of life and way of doing things as things go on advancing. The policing methods can be expanded, and the style of living of the community.
