Ketoglutarate (5C) (2 NADH) Succinyl-CoA (4C) (2 ATP) Succinate (4C)
(2 FADH2) Fumarate (4C) Malate (4C) (2 NADH) Oxaloacetate (4C)
2). Total Production of:
1- ATP
3-NADH and
1- FADH
3.) List the final electron receptor molecules involved in anaerobic and aerobic respiration and the molecules they produce, as a result:
Final electron receptor Molecule in aerobic respiration is oxygen
Final electron receptor Molecule in anaerobic respiration is depends on the situation. In muscles, during lactic acid fermentation, the final electron receptor molecule is pyruvate. In yeast cells, during alcohol fermentation, the molecule is acetaldehyde
4) Four ways in which photosynthesis and cellular respiration are interdependent. Include the specific stages and molecules for both processes in your answer?
Photosynthesis and cellular respiration are interdependent and rely on each other, hence interdependent. The following are four ways in which these two processes are interdependent.
1. Cellular respiration produces CO2 in the Krebs’s Cycle which is used during photosynthesis in the Calvin cycle to produce Glucose.
2. Photosynthesis produces oxygen which is used during cellular respiration in combination with glucose to form ATP and CO2
3. Glucose, a product of photosynthesis, is used in cellular respiration during the process of glycolysis, where it is oxidized to produce ATP.
4. Both processes work together to recycle carbon, i.e. Cellular releases CO2 as a final product, while Photosynthesis takes up CO2 from the atmosphere, which act as a reactant. The final equations of both processes area a mirror of each other,
Photosynthesis: 6CO2 + 6H2O –––> C6H12O6 + 6O2
Respiration : C6H12O6 + 6O2 –––> 6CO2 + 6H2O
