The Big Bang Theory Episode 14: The Emotion Detection Automation is a well-known example of science fiction and television that is used to discuss numerous elements of organizational behavior. This particular television program is a work of humor based on the real-life experiences of several scientists (Tapaswi & Stiefelhagen, 2012). These scientists are well-versed in scientific principles and examples, particularly those related to physics. Aspects of organizational behavior, particularly emotional intelligence and detection, are demonstrated in "The Big Bang Theory" episode 14 (Vogt & André, 2005). Sheldon is one of the characters who considers using a science machine to solve the socializing issue. This is basically based on the MIT's scientific application that can deal with the emotions of people and subsequently made to correspond to the emotions and feelings of people. Sheldon's focus is to overcome the problem of lack of socialization and interaction somehow using the applied science and technology. This approach of utilization of "Emotion Detection" using a scientific application can be referred to as "Automation of Emotional Intelligence". The other character Raj looks into the development of adequate level of understanding in order to know Sheldon's problem of detecting and diagnosing emotional awareness and feelings. Therefore the tragedy of this episode and bottom-line is the fact of Sheldon's lack of reading the emotional behavior depicted by himself. This is the real problem with all those who cannot anticipate with the socialization and real-time interactivity with people. Sheldon’s rude and ignorant comments make him stand-out from rest of normal characters of the TV show, for instance, Amy who is the only female character and she is not a science expert. This interesting fact revealed through the analysis of this show's episode 14 helps the researchers to deduce some interesting aspects about the importance of emotional intelligence and what can be the role of introducing scientific applications in the domain of organizational behavior.

The Emotion Detection Automation and Emotional Intelligence

Organizational behavior and emotional intelligence are associated with the expression of feelings and emotions by individuals. It has remained debate full that whether scientific applications or usage of technology can help in managing or reducing the problems related to the emotional intelligence. For instance, considering the 14th episode of The Bing Bang TV Show it is quite understandable that controlling own emotions and feelings for the scientific community becomes a challenge sometimes (Tapaswi & Stiefelhagen, 2012). The character of Sheldon throughout the 14 episodes of the TV shows struggles with establishment of social interaction and relationship with other people. It is obvious that a student of science or technology needs most of its time of day to focus on its study and exploration. This will make it difficult for the student of science and technology to spare it’s time for any extra curriculum activities or fun. Apart from the time related issues the subject of science is abstract and reasoning based knowledge which most of the times makes its readers less vibrant socially. Without the urge to interact with others one person cannot do anything to know what is organizational behavior and the subject of emotional intelligence. Even in case of detection of this challenge for a scientific person such as Sheldon become a tragedy and another challenge when he thinks to solve the problem through technology. It is not necessary that science and technology can answer all the problems related to human beings. Especially the psychological problems and emotional intelligence is a subject that is concerned with the human based skills in totality (Kim & Bang, 2004). The science and technology can facilitate a bit in diagnosing and detection of facts about emotional intelligence but it also needs the operator of device or machine to be ‘highly emotionally intelligent’. This makes the relevance of solving issues related to the emotional intelligence by involving human beings rather than machines. Of course machines can be considered to facilitate the process of problem resolution.

Now-a-days, nearly science and technology is involved in every sphere of human lives in solving problems and making the lives easy. Emotional intelligence is subjected to understanding of human based feelings and emotions. This is a vast field and there can be many reasons why a person can be socially less reactive or emotionally less intelligent. The 14’th episode of The Big Bang Theory looks at the various aspects associated to the introducing ‘automation’ in the field of ‘emotional detection’. But, the challenge arises when Sheldon, one of the central characters of the TV show, lacks with the establishment of adequate skills to understand its own emotions. He thought of taking help of machine based on the MIT’s research project to solve his social problems. This cannot be a handy and fruit-full idea as the person who operates the machine needs to be ‘highly emotionally intelligent’ person.
